Sounds Of Lawrence auditioned with EMI then shortly after Terry was asked to rejoin The Ambassadors a well known vocal group of which Terry was a founding member.
He contacted EMI to find out about the audition results and was delighted to hear that they had been looking for him to offer him a contract.
His first recording with EMI produced "Never My Love" a moderately successful hit and producer Mike Perjanik invited him to join Sydney's big band.

Terry's past commercials include:Farrah Hair Products, Babe Perfume, Miracle Margarine, Maroomba, and many others including Camel cigarettes, originally sung by American Ray Stevens. It provided a real challenge. " I had to imagine what the guy was thinking and how he approached the Camel song,' says Terry.
The acclaimed Complex disbanded the following year then Terry joined Tony Gaha's "In People" at Chequers nightclub in Sydney.
A solo career followed and his recording career was on it's way. David Woodley Page the engineer on Terry's first recording liked what he heard and told him that Advertising Producer Pat Alton will call him the following day for regular session work. First Jingles for International Airlines then the beginning of 14 years of constant recording resulting in around 900 sessions mostly as lead vocalist plus a single with the Complex band.
According to Terry, the usual procedure is to walk into a studio without any knowledge of what is expected from the singer. " Every recording" he says, is a brand new floorshow - that's what makes you a session singer - you just walk in and do it."
Terry's secret is to sing at quarter volume. In this way, he retains the quality of his voice and will not strain unless he is called upon to a hard and throaty feel like the "Shout" theme used for the stocking manufacturer Kolotex ( which sounds very much like the late Johnny O'Keefe's recording of Shout) " I like to vary my voice a lot, and it works for me that way", says Terry.
